First of all, I gave this a four star rating only because I reserve the 5th star for only the very best. That being said; this was a very enticing story. I have read much about the Second World War but I realized recently that most of my reading was based on the American and British view, with much less from the perspective of the German and Japanese people and soldiers. This book give a look at a fraction of the life from inside the life of a German soldier. Granted it is a work of fiction and as such, I could not say where the exact line lies between reality and that of telling a story. I wish there was more information given about the author so we could know some of his background and his motivation for conceiving such a tale.In any case, it was a great read and another of those books that can keep a person up later at night that normal until it is finished.
Tells about a German soldier who desserts his unit and why in World War 2 using a motorcycle. Not because he is afraid, but because he just does not believe in the cause and the brutality.
Well written, one really gets the feeling of having been there.The insanity of war is well described by a young German.
Not the book I thought I was downloading but read and enjoyed. I was hoping it would've gone on to cover more of life with bike etc.
WWII Germany is the setting for the education and awakening of Otto Krueger; raised in Hitlers Germany, indoctrinated by hatred for all that was not Aryan, yet he was able to see the injustice in what was happening and kept seeing signs pointing him in another direction. One would think Mr Godbold was Otto as he takes us through all of the levels of emotions, the metaphysical ride, to the ultimate choice that must be made by all people at one time or another: right from wrong. Once Otto comes to this point and makes his choice another ride begins, this one physical, to save himself and another by leaving Hitlers Germany behind. I read this book in two days and was amazed at how complete all characters were written and the emotions that were embodied.
I liked this book. It was cheap by Kindle standards but worth the money. Ebooks should be cheaper the paper books, not so with Kindle or Nok ebooks.
